Hailey Bieber Pays Tribute to Late Virgil Abloh With Behind-the-Scenes Look at Her Wedding Dress

Virgil Abloh’s legacy endures.
On what would have been the late designer’s 44th birthday, Hailey Bieber took a moment to pay tribute to Virgil and the important part he played in her and husband Justin Bieber’s 2018 wedding ceremony.
“Happy birthday V, we miss you,” she captioned a Sept. 30 Instagram Story. “Thank you for making me the most magical wedding dress.”
And indeed, in the photo Hailey—clad in head-to-toe lace in her off-the-shoulder, mermaid style wedding gown—walks arm in arm with Virgil.
She followed up the photo with a sweet candid of herself and Justin kissing on their wedding day, her extra-long veil on full display, which bore the words, “’Till Death Do Us Part.”
Hailey captioned the snap with a “5” in honor of the years she and the Grammy winner—who are now parents to baby son Jack Blues Bieber—have been married.
The Rhode beauty founder has previously shared why it was so important that Virgil be the one to design her wedding gown, expressing she knew from the very start he was perfect for the job.
“I didn't want somebody who was a wedding dress designer," Hailey shared in an Oct. 2019 video with Vogue. "I just feel like my style and street style is a part of who I am and Virgil has always been in my corner from the beginning and I just feel like it's cool to see such an intricate gown from him."
She added that the trailing, dramatic veil was simply the “icing” on the proverbial wedding cake.
And when it came to Virgil’s vision, he too knew early on just what Hailey needed for her special day.
"For her, I wanted something fun and youthful, but still traditional,” he explained to Vogue. “What I think is most important for her on this day is showcasing the woman that she is. I wanted to make something that made [Justin] look in Hailey's eyes and see that she's the most beautiful woman for him."
Hailey’s tribute to the Off-White founder comes just shy of the third anniversary of his Nov. 2021 passing due to cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, at the age of 41.
And in the years since, a number of celebrities and peers who had the chance to work with the designer have paid tribute to the indelible impact he left on the fashion industry during his lifetime.
As Gigi Hadid wrote on Instagram on the first anniversary of Virgil’s passing, "You left a us a lifetime of inspiration, just by being yourself…We love and miss you so much. Virgil Forever & ever."
Similarly, tennis star Serena Williams—whose bold fashion choices on and off the court were a standout throughout her career—reflected on her relationship with Virgil.
"It's been a year and I still can't put into words the sorrow that I feel," she captioned her respective post. "Your touch on the world will live on forever and I couldn't be more grateful to have witnessed it and had the chance to collaborate with you. I still miss you all the time. Forever and ever @virgilabloh."
