Prefer to take your reading on the go?
Bookworms have moved increasingly digital in recent years with audiobooks, e-readers and apps for personal tracking and clubs. Even “Booktok,” the TikTok hotspot for readers, has changed the publishing world significantly. Audiobook revenue also continues to grow, reaching $1.8 billion in the U.S. in 2022, according to Statista.
But even the most avid readers know not every book you open (or listen to) is a hit. If you use Amazon Prime’s audiobook service Audible and are regretting your recent purchase, here’s what to know.
How to return a book on Audible
Audible users can return books through the “Purchase History” section of the mobile or desktop platform. According to Audible, here’s how to make a return on desktop:
Check out: USA TODAY's weekly Best-selling Booklist
- Click on your username
- Select “Account Details” and then “Purchase History”
- Find the book you want to return and click “Return this title”
Here’s how to return a book on mobile:
- Click on the “Main Menu” icon with three lines
- Select the greeting with your name to open up your account options
- Navigate to “Purchase History” and select the book
- Choose “Return this title” and “Confirm”
Your refund will be processed in one of two ways – if you paid for the book with a credit, you’ll get a credit back. If you used a coupon, you’ll get another coupon in return. Refunded credits will expire 12 months after they are issued.
Why can’t I return my book on Audible?
Your difficulty making a return could be for one of several reasons. Audible does not refund titles purchased with a credit card, a policy it implemented in October 2022.
You must be an Audible Premium Plus member to make a return. Audible offers two membership plans: Premium Plus, which costs $14.95 per month, and Audible Plus at $7.95 per month.
You also must meet these eligibility requirements:
- Purchased the book with credits
- Return made within 365 days of purchasing
- Have an account in good standing
Just make sure to play by the rules – Audible warns it has the power to “monitor returns for any abuse, such as excessive returns, frequent return of titles after prolonged listening, or returns of multiple titles at a time.”
